About Mariame Iraki

I believe that each person is unique and can unlock their potential with an optimal mindset, personalised nutrition, and a healthy lifestyle.

My main area of expertise as a dietitian centers around gastrointestinal health, with a specific emphasis on managing food intolerance, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), as well as addressing conditions like PCOS, weight management, and menopause. To ensure I can best meet the needs of my patients, I have pursued further training in these particular areas.

With years of experience as a pharmacist and a dietitian, I have personally witnessed the profound impact of the mind on facilitating transformative changes, managing pain, and fostering healing. Despite knowing what they need to do, individuals often encounter obstacles rooted in emotions, beliefs, values, memories, habits, and the subconscious mind. These factors significantly influence behaviours and responses to various stimuli, including pain.

My personal journey has led me to experience the transformative effects of clinical hypnotherapy across diverse areas, including irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and pain management. Motivated by these experiences, I chose to pursue advanced training in clinical hypnotherapy and strategic psychotherapy.

My goal is to integrate my expertise as a dietitian with the therapeutic benefits of clinical hypnotherapy to provide comprehensive support to my patients. By harnessing the power of the mind-body connection, I aim to help individuals not only to alleviate their symptoms but also enhance their overall health and well-being, empowering them to lead fulfilling lives.

At Belconnen Specialist Centre the Resting Metabolic Rate measurement is available.

The equipment used is the desktop indirect calorimeter with canopy using the dilution technique for accurate measurements of the Resting Metabolic Rate (RMR) in a clinical setting.

The use of a ventilated hood makes the test highly comfortable allowing patients to breathe freely. The ventilated hood can also be used for long periods of time with minimal discomfort and no air leaks from the system. The accuracy of the equipment has been validated against the “gold standard” Douglas Bag.

The amount of energy required (calories per day) by each individual can be very diverse. Resting Metabolic Rate (RMR) is the daily amount of calories burned at rest to maintain vital body functions. The majority of the calories your body burns each day are those just to remain alive. In a sedentary person, RMR accounts for up to 80% of the total daily energy expenditure.

Measuring your individual metabolism (RMR), and estimating the energy required by your body to sustain your lifestyle and physical activity will help to know your daily energy expenditure. These three variables would help providing you with a scientifically recommended daily food intake based upon your individual metabolism.

Like most health assessments there are certain guidelines you need to follow. To get an accurate Resting Metabolic Measurement, be sure to comply with the guidelines provided to you prior your appointment.
